Contemporary Armor Series 1994 – 2008

I painted the Contemporary Armor Series while prosecuting a twenty-five-year career in high technology sales and marketing. For relief' I painted. I spent the last decade of that career examining the ways the business world compels us to arm ourselves in order to engage in the in the battlefield that is corporate life.  A life where "The Art of War" is the operating manual. The worldview this generated by this environment necessitates developing a mind that separates the material and the spiritual worlds. It compels us to try to offset a spiritual malady with a material solution.

The business world language is loaded with war games and sports metaphor. This series explores the "smoke and mirrors" of corporate life and its glorification of objects that is  embedded in the belief that success and acquisition in the material world can fulfill a spiritual hunger.  The notion of  contemporary armor represents the empty ritual and shiny armor that we come to believe offers a defense from a threatening world.
